You wake up already tired. Your morning coffee isn't really doing the trick anymore. Around 3 PM, a heavy blanket of fatigue settles in, and in the evening, despite your exhaustion, sleep isn't always restorative. 1. The silent hormonal shift in your mid-thirties

But a more subtle shift begins much earlier: from age 35, progesterone production gradually starts to decline, while estrogen levels remain largely stable. This relative imbalance – sometimes called "estrogen dominance" by naturopaths – can manifest as:

After age 35, deep sleep (the most restorative phase) naturally decreases, even without a diagnosed sleep disorder. You can sleep 8 hours and wake up as tired as the night before, simply because the quality of deep sleep has changed.

How to take concrete action?

Here are some tips that can make a real difference, to try gradually:

  1. Have your ferritin checked, not just your hemoglobin, during your next blood test.
  2. Prioritize magnesium-rich foods: nuts, legumes, dark chocolate, magnesium-rich mineral water.
  3. Observe your cycle: noting the days when fatigue is strongest can reveal a clear hormonal link.
  4. Protect deep sleep: limit screens in the evening, maintain regular bedtimes, avoid alcohol in the evening, which fragments sleep.
  5. Lighten your mental load where possible: delegate, say no, accept imperfection – easier said than done, but one of the most powerful long-term levers.
